[These are “posts” from my old site, circa 2003. Links (mostly non-RESTful and now broken anyway) have been removed.]

I’ve been messing around with my analog 4-track recorder at home. Found some excellent free (as in beer) open-source audio software at sourceforge: audacity. Finally converted a few tracks to digital format. They’re all first takes and improvised, the audio equivalent of a notepad or back of a napkin, but it’s fun. Really gotta get my trumpet chops back though. Anyway they’re here. Also I finished reading Tosches’ In the Hand of Dante which was entertaining and erudite, and a few other things. Work is hectic, but life is good. Looking forward to a break, and to enjoying the snow! (shovelled 28″ yesterday). Till next time….

I wonder if I will ever attempt to make this site useful or interesting to anyone else. In the meantime, brief news and thoughts: my grandpa weekly recently passed away. he was my last living grandparent. He went peacefully, and was ready to go, and was loved. his passing has caused me to consider my role in our family: I am the oldest son of his oldest son, and he in turn was an eldest child. I do not know exactly how many generations back this pattern continues (at least five), but it’s something that has some meaning for me, triggering some sense of connection to my lineage… perhaps I’ll write more on this later.
other news: Shawna is happy at her new job; Layla is in heat for the first time; Jamie and Susannah are engaged (and moved to Plymouth, and Jamie quit his job to run Shaw’s); my sister-in-law Lauren has been living with us for a few months (leading to much quality time spent w both her and Steve, her fiance); for my birthday shawna bought me a jazz box (a blue JT-134DC — a thinline semi-hollow double-cutaway twin-humbucker electric guitar) which I’ve been recording a bit, along w some trumpet samples (shure mic -> fender acoustasonic -> yamaha 4-track). I need to get digital.;
the boat won’t be hauled for another couple weeks, but given the cold/wet weather the season feels over. sorry to see it end, but no regrets — we had a fantastic summer on the water.
we’ve been in the house for a year and love it. also I’ve been at Upromise nearly 3 years, and it amazes me how rapidly and completely things continue to change. I need a vacation but otherwise don’t have much to complain about there.
the sox are still fully in it, the pats won again today, and I’m holding on to a slim lead in my first-ever fantasy football league.
I need to go hiking, to read more, to spend more time making and listening to music, and to devote more time to my friends. but in general life has been very kind to me of late, and I’m grateful.
more photos and a much-delayed site overhaul forthcoming….

Wow, it’s been over six months since my last update. In a nutshell: Shawna is fine, Layla is getting huge (over 50 lbs!), the house is great, we’ve had lots of sailing trips all over Buzzard’s Bay, my brother is starting a company, Upromise is doing well, my grandfather (mom’s dad) passed away at 97, and I’m looking fwd to a little vacation. Till next time….

We got a puppy!! Layla is a female chocolate labrador retriever, and she’s almost eight weeks old. She is incredible. We’re completely smitten.

Happy New Year!
No big update, just enjoyed a bit of a vacation, saw siblings and relatives and inlaws and friends, enjoyed everyone’s generosity, got my hair cut short again, spent lots of time at home reading…
The house is great, we finally have a comfortable space that’s ours to relax in, and we’re loving it.
Also I think sometime soon I will make this pseudo-blog a separate journal page, and rework the site a bit. I find it incredibly boring right now…
later
