Image Gallery Working!

Spent many more hours than I’d have liked digging through and tweaking .php, smarty .tpl and .htaccess files, but have succeeded in getting “Gallery2″ integrated (via WPG2 plugin) into WordPress, and am pretty psyched with the featureset. I need to work on uploading tons of pics now, but the infrastructure for blogging and photo management is all done! Signing off w/ my favorite picture of Abi:

Working on Image Gallery

I have a fair number of digital photographs archived and need a way to manage them on my site. For years I used a homegrown script my brother wrote, but it’s not terribly portable, and I don’t relish the thought of manually integrating it into my WordPress installation. So I looked and found an open-source PHP-based web image management application named “Gallery2″ and, coupled with a WordPress plugin called “WPG2″, am mostly succeeding in integrating my photos into my new site. It’s remarkable how much manual hacking (of apache config, and WP template php files, and config files) is needed but with the help of a decent forum, it’s getting done.

Website Overhaul Begins… Now.

Hi. I started posting content to my personal website(s) starting in 2001, but am only now, finally, leveraging real blogging tools to do so. Settled on WordPress, because it’s open-source and because there’s native support for it on my great new web host dreamhost.com. I’m hoping this will facilitate more frequent posts and make for a better organized public-facing view into my thoughts and life.
